Essay Planning is an essential skill for A-level Business exam success that is often neglected by students.
For the examiner, it’s easy to see the student responses that have a coherent plan, and those where the candidate is making it up as they go along.
Planning will lead to greater structure and focus in our answers, so we can swiftly and efficiently secure maximum marks. By thinking through and planning our response, our answers will be more insightful and show better judgment leading to significantly higher scores for analysis and evaluation.

Select the most valuable points
A plan allows you to priortise the points to include in your answer. Select the most relevant points. In paper 2, ensure you can apply the points you choose to the information in the case study.
Use your planning time to think through where you will score evaluation points (if required). Your plan will signal the points for and against an argument, but there may be one point that is more important than all the others.
In paper 1 12 and 20 mark questions you should aim to score evaluation points before reaching reaching the conclusion.
